ABSTRACT

Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of psychosocial rehabilitation intervention on schizophrenia

Methodology: One hundred forty schizophrenia outpatients in remission stage were randomized to either an antipsychotic monomedication [control group] or an antipsychotic monomedication plus a psychosocial rehabitation training [trial group]. Positive and Negative syndrome Scale [PANSS], Disability Screening Schedule [SDSS] were performed longitudinally from baseline to month 18 to evaluate the efficacy

Results: Significant difference in relapse rate between the control group [42.9%] and the trial group [18.6%] was found at month 18. In patients who didn't relapse, the trial group showed significantly lower PANSS and SDSS score [P < 0.05] than did the control group after treatment

Conclusion: Psychosocial rehabilitation intervention could produce a better outcome in terms of reducing relapse and improving the social functioning in schizophrenia

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To develop psychosocial skills training module for schizophrenic outpatients. Methods Structured psychosocial skills training program, which were made according to community rehabilitation plan for schizophrenia, featured convenience and well operability. Subjects were 96 of 204 schizorenic outpatients in remission who were randomly assigned to receive psychosocial skills training combined medicine(observation group) or medicine only(control group) and followed up by 24 months. The changes during treatment were evaluated by positive and negative syndrome scale(PANSS), Social Disability Screening Schedule(SDSS) and patients' cognition function were also evaluated longitudinally. Results Relapse rate of control group (37%) is higer than observation group (17.7%, P<0.01). After Last Observation Carried Forward(LOCF), control group showed higer scores than observation group on positive syndrome (8.34±2.04 vs 7.66±0.97), negative syndrome(9.15±1.97 vs 813±1.15), total score (37.64±5.58 vs 34.79±3.64) and Social disability (2.81±1.90 vs 2.07±1.47) (P<0.01); observation group also showed a significant progress on cognition function(P<0.05). Conclusion This trial demonstrated the efficacy of the easy-operating structured psychosocial skill training grogram in preventing relapse and improving social adoptive function for schizophrenia.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the effects of green tea polysaccharides (TPs) on glucose metabolism and the activity of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-?) in KKAy type 2 diabetic mice. Methods: Glucose tolerance test, fasting and postprandial glucose, gluconeogenesis, and insulin sensitivity were investigated in type 2 diabetic mice with orally administered TPs at the dose of 500mg/kg for 4-10 w. Effect of TPs on activity of PPAR-? was tested in vitro. Results: TPs could not only improve glucose tolerance, but also reduce fasting and postprandial blood glucose. In addition, TPs could inhibit gluconeogenesis and enhance insulin sensitivity in KKAy diabetic mice. TPs had also an effect of activating of PPAR-? with dose-response. Conclusion: TPs have beneficial effect of lowering blood glucose in KKAy type 2 diabetic mice, which may be induced by enhancing insulin sensitivity by activating of PPAR-?.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate activities of lipo-related enzymes in ventromedial hypothalamic obese rats at acute phase in fed state. Methods: Female SD rats were divided into two groups, one group received bilateral electrolytic lesions of ventromedial hypothalamus(VMH), and another one was used as sham control. Samples of blood, livers, and subcutaneous, parametric and mesenteric adipose tissues ,and gastrocnemius were collected one week after VMH lesions and sham operations in fed state. Results: Serum insulin in VMH group was higher than that in sham group, meanwhile serum free fatty acids in VMH group were lower (P
